The number of oil and gas rigs in the United States rose by 9 this week, according to Baker Hughes—after rising by 3 last week. The total rig count is now 500, up 256 from the same time last year—the highest rig count since April 2020, but still down sharply from the 790 active rigs prior to the pandemic.
